Analysis of 'Shutter Island'

Trailer starts with opening messages for the audiences. paramount logo comes onto screen in dark colours while a dark music is being played. an establishing shot of a ship coming into focus from the fog creates fear however the music is being played quite peacefully to build up. another establishing shot of an island which would indicate that this is where the event will be taken place as it matches with the name of the film. dialougue is being played over the top of the shot which is also zooming very slowly so that the audience doesnt really notice the differece. cuts to a black scene where dialogue is still being heard over, the black scene is shown for a few seconds more then other shots. fades out from black to two secrurity guards opening a big black gate. the low angle shot shows intimidation, fast cuts to scary scenes of weapons a dirty walls with the music increasing to a high pitch. fades out from a drippy corridor with dialougue over the top telling the audience where they are talking about to be able to put a place with the discription. fades to the main two characters on the ship that the trailer opened with. the voice matches the dialougue that was being played over the top of the scenes. the camera using a low angle shot zooms in through the gates quite quickly when we hear another gentlemens voice. front view of the two characters walking through the gates. low angle shot shows power on there behalf. high pitches again and fast rapid cuts to different scary and confusing shots. a bang is heard as the shot changes to an establishing shot of the whole mental home from a birds eye point of view. fades out again onto a conversation between the two main detectives and the guard. dialougue is the only sound heard. fast shots to different areas of the mental home using a steady camera. a pan shot of a woman from the detectives point of view then cuts to a medium close up of one of the detectives face. a caption is cut to that looks like paint splatters then cuts to another conversation with different men. more rapid cuts to different ares of the prision with dialougue over the top. music is built up while long shots are shown of the men looking around. lots of fades into different shots of the setting. high pitches keep coming in and out of cuts, dialogue describes details while footage is shown to match up then cuts to flash backs of main detective and different woman, more dialogue over the top cuts back to the setting and unsteady camera is being used to show intensity and eveything that is going on. more captions with paint splats showing the actors names. same music that builds up for the last 15 cuts that are quite rapid and finally ends in another establishing shot of the island itself that seems to be in the middle of nowhere. the title of the film is written over the island which then cuts again to more captions and messages with the last bit of dialogue then ends with a quite crash.
